Electrical Troubleshooting of Machine Systems

Practical, hands-on program designed to teach maintenance staff how to safely diagnose and repair faults in industrial, electrically-controlled equipment. It focuses on using multimeters, interpreting schematics, and systematic troubleshooting of pre-wired, real-world machine simulators.

This Engineering Skillnet programme is co-funded by the Government of Ireland, the European Union, and network companies.  #EUinmyregion

Electrical Troubleshooting of Machine Systems

Key aspects of this training include:

  • Systematic Troubleshooting: Techniques to narrow down faults (open/short circuits, faulty sensors/coils) using a logical, 7-step method.
  • Practical Skills: Hands-on work with simulators, including relay latching circuits, safety relays, and cable termination.
  • Safety & Compliance: Training on safe electrical practices, including Lockdown/Tagout (LOTO), isolating, and verification.
  • Documentation: Understanding and navigating industrial electrical schematics (US and EU standards) to identify components and test points.

The course aims to reduce downtime by enabling technicians to quickly identify faults in complex, automated systems.
